Fuse Camp 2020 May 20-24 Aulus-les-Bains, France
For the third year in succession Gavin was to run a week’s course at Fuse. But because of the current virus situation, those who signed up for this year’s course will be automatically registered for the following year 2021. In the meantime Gavin will work online with everyone in a way to be determined by Fuse…
The course does not take a narrow dogmatic line, but rather will take Gavin’s work as a starting point to examine compositional forms and strategies, working closely with the group members’ existing practice and methods, and with the aim of each student developing a finished work for performance at the end of the session. Students from all musical backgrounds are welcome, whether classically trained, improvisors, sound artists, installation artists, conceptual artists or favouring any other approach. Students can bring works in progress to be developed; or they can start on something new whether alone or collectively. They can develop new projects and ideas using Camp resources or work with the extraordinary natural environment.
Sessions will include:
One to one tuition sessions
Presentations from Gavin of different types of musical material: vocal music, strings, opera, dance, composing in relation to past music.
Showings of Gavin’s work in opera, dance and film
Showing of final work on last day
The sessions will be accompanied by optional outdoors activities led by CAMP crew, including guided mountaineering, visits to local beauty points, and downtime to hang out, relax, enjoy the local food and wine, and learn informally from Gavin, the CAMP crew, and your fellow students. Following the course, further support of the work developed will come in the form of performance and releasing opportunities via Fuse Art Space and our range of in-house record labels.
This year Jay Gambit, who worked at Fuse in 2018 has released an album with Gavin following his work at Fuse…
