Villa I Tatti

Following the success of previous works for the Villa I Tatti (the Harvard University Centre for Italian Renaissance Studies, Florence) Gavin has been commissioned to write a new set of madrigals for the group Singer Pur. The collection will consist of a sestina, three sonnets (texts by Battiferri) and two sonnets (texts by Bronzino/Battiferri). In 2009 Gavin wrote four “I Tatti Madrigals” – also for Singer Pur – setting two sonnets by Petrarch and one each by Bronzino and Battiferri. These were commissioned by Villa I Tatti in memory of Professor Craig Smyth. In 2004 Gavin wrote A qualunque animale for Vox Altera (who have since recorded the work on BCGBCD16). This was commissioned by the Morrill Music Library, Villa I Tatti in memory of Elizabeth and Gordon Morrill.
