Apart from the period when I lectured in a university from 1969 to 1994, I have also given many lectures and seminars in colleges, conservatoires and universities all over the world. In many cases these have been attached to performances where I am in a particular place for a concert and so I give lectures or seminars alongside these – as well as radio or television interviews. These often deal with aspects of my musical composition, whether in a general overall aesthetic way, or with individual topics such as vocal music, opera, sonnets/madrigals, art installations, architectural questions, writing for strings, the relationship between composer and performer and so on.
These can be added to any performance with which I am involved as a separate though related activity, or I am able to accept invitations for freestanding lectures in academic or other contexts.
Places where I have lectured in the recent past include, among others:
(UK) York University, Bristol University, Dartington College of Arts, Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Hull University, Royal College of Art, Bangor University, Bath Spa University, ICA London, University College London, Cambridge University, Oxford University, Newcastle University,
