As part of the Superspectives Festival in Lyon I am doing a concert which relates both to the music of Erik Satie and to the idea of “ambience.” It takes place in the open air near the astonishingly beautiful ornate Basilique Notre Dame de Fourvière, set high on the hill overlooking the old town. Satie has always been an important composer for me and, in the 1970’s, I was British Ambassador for the Erik Satie foundation – and John Cage was its American Ambassador…
