GB Ensemble Sheffield

I will return to Sheffield, one of my favourite cities and where I lived for five years, with my ensemble and perform in the Firth Hall in which I last played 60 years ago (!) – then as a bass player (the only one) in the university orchestra. It was conducted by Professor Stewart Deas in a programme that included a Bach violin concerto as well as works by Weber. I remember that the Weber almost broke down as there had been changes made in the last rehearsal which the imported professional extra players did not know about…

And it was in Sheffield that I developed as jazz and improvising bass player with Derek Bailey and Tony Oxley with our weekly sessions at the Grapes, Trippet Lane…
